Localization transformation of GT control system, breaking through technology monopoly and moving towards new heights

The Ajebandele-Ipaye GT power plant project in Nigeria is an EPC general contracting project undertaken by Yufeng company, which undertakes the design, procurement, installation, transformation and commissioning of the project. The power plant uses 10 GE-PG9171E gas simple cycle reused units, and the total installed capacity of the whole plant under ISO state is 1250MW. This type of GT has the advantages of compact structure, rapid start-up and high operating efficiency, but there are also some challenges in the unit control system.


For many years, the core technology of GE gas turbines has been in a blocked state, and its equipment supply and maintenance market has been basically monopolized by foreign manufacturers. This monopoly situation not only leads to extremely expensive maintenance service costs and long supply cycles, but also makes it difficult to obtain key technologies, and faces many restrictions when maintaining and upgrading equipment. In recent years, the company has also been looking for opportunities to break this monopoly, and is committed to localizing GE gas turbine control systems, maintenance equipment, etc., to improve the company's competitiveness in the industry, and also provide successful cases for domestic companies of the same type to "go out".


The localization transformation of GE gas turbines faces many technical difficulties, mainly including complex core control loops, high precision requirements for gas turbine body models, high requirements for control platform software and hardware, high difficulty in combustion adjustment control technology, lack of technical support and experience accumulation, etc.


In order to break the technology monopoly, reduce costs and improve efficiency for power plant operation and maintenance, the company has made many investigations, combined with the actual situation of the project site and the current domestic DCS transformation results, and finally decided to continue to use GE's MARK V control system in GT1-GT4 units, and jointly transform GT5-GT10 units into domestic DCS with SCIYON. As a listed company on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, SCIYON is committed to solutions and product manufacturing in the fields of smart industry, smart city, smart equipment, smart manufacturing, industrial Internet platform, etc. Its domestic DCS system has been widely used in multiple industries such as power, petroleum, and chemical industry.


As of today, the project funding for each system of GT5-GT10 units has been completed, and the design of cabinets and network cabinets has also been completed. The production of gas turbine control cabinets, network cabinets and BOP cabinets has begun, and it is expected that the design and production of the entire system hardware equipment will be completed by May 30, 2025. At the same time, other logic analysis and design work are also progressing steadily to ensure that the project proceeds as planned.


In addition, the company also plans to strengthen the training and experience accumulation of technical personnel during the transformation of the Ajebandele-Ipaye gas turbine power plant units. Through cooperation with Nanjing Sciyuan Wisdom, advanced technical training systems and practical experience will be introduced to improve the overall technical level of the team and ensure that the challenges of equipment maintenance and upgrades can be better met in the future. This transformation will not only help reduce operating costs, but will also improve the operating efficiency and reliability of the units, providing strong guarantees for the long-term stable operation of the power plant.


Through this localization transformation, the Ajebandele-Ipaye gas turbine power plant is expected to break the monopoly of foreign technology, achieve independent control of core technologies, and set a new benchmark for energy infrastructure construction in Nigeria and even Africa.
